And how do you know they're not doing that? Preparing for an emergency does not mean you neglect everything else. You SAY they didn''t work on just that but Da Silva gives the wrong impression, which means your one source is selectively reporting what they said.

So you're basing your assumptions on reading Da Silva. Well--I read the original Athletic article and Da Silva's summary is a little confused. He doesn't get it quite right. The interview does NOT give the impression that ALL they're doing is working on plays where the pocket collapses. In fact it was dumb of Da Silva to act like that's what they were saying.

Plus of course you throw off your back foot when you can't escape or step up. You know you might have to do that "quickly"--it's not either/or between throwing more quickly and having to compromise ideal mechanics. The trick is, IF you're going to be in that situation a couple of times a game anyway, and the alternative is taking a sack, why not stress the better way to make a play under those conditions. To call that stressing bad mechanics is a misread of what they are doing.

AND like many, they apparently do not believe he needs to "read the D better." They are apparently aware that the myth he is not reading D's comes from him pressing and trying to make plays without time in a porous pocket.
