Like I posted several times, I believe the Rams need to get bigger at Center, but Blythe is better than Allen IMO. Maybe Allen.
Allen is no star---would like to see someone like Brandon Linder or someone like that, but as of now, when healthy, Allen > Blythe according
to my eyes, according to PFF and according to the scout group I got a bit of information from due to a personal relationship.
Blythe is just a guy, someone who Rams seem to like who is "killing" the oline...
... if it's indeed the case that Blythe is going to start over Allen, then I think it's clear that the RAMS think the version of Blythe they expect to get is better than the version of Allen they expect to have. There's a conceivable argument about how given committed $$$, cap space, etc. etc., the Rams are going with Blythe even though they think Allen is the better center. For example, maybe they think Blythe is the more valuable play simply because he's at least passable at two positions, while Allen might be playable only at one.
But I think it's most likely that the RAMS think Blythe is better than Allen. And, FWIW, that matters much more to ME than what a scout says (scouts disagree ALL the time) or what PFF says.
Blythe sounds happy, sounds like he thinks center is his best position. He clearly had some health issues last year and feels it'll make a difference to prepare, as a starter, at his preferred position.
Will all that make him an All-Pro? Probably not. Will it make him better than Allen? Dunno.
Will it make him better than he was last year? I think that's likely.
Let's hope so!
