Namely, keeping Mahomes surrounded with good enough talent to maximize his abilities despite cap restrictions.
Nice problem for the Chiefs though, huh?
Look at all the teams to make the post-season for the last 5 years.
Half of them have fully-paid for high contract qbs.
Of course it can be done, zn. I’m just pointing out that it must be done.
And that it becomes progressively more tricky as more and more elite talents are acquired.
I don't agree.
It turns out in terms of making the playoffs, you're about dead even with teams with more non-qb cap space but also a first contract qb.
Wait a minute. You don’t agree that it’s more tricky for a team with a QB on his 2nd contract AND a couple of elite players on the roster AND numerous other near Pro Bowl players?
Please tell me that you misread my post. Lol.
No I don't agree and here's why. 2 reasons.
1. The team with the paid-for qb has a veteran experienced franchise qb. A more experienced veteran at the most important position. The team with a first contract qb doesn't have that. It's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.
2. As I said, actual data from who makes the playoffs does not indicate a significant advantage goes to teams with the first contract qb. That's important info.
What this does is sort out the teams that can draft well from those that can't. That way you supplement your best veteran players with good young ones.
Tell me you honestly believe there is only one valid way to look at this which coincidentally also happens to be yours...the playoff history does not say that is the only valid position.
