And he talked about how he saw the moment Gurley likely got injured (hit against the eagles) and that everybody in the press box liked at each other as if to say "he doesn't look good" when he got back up. Take it for what it's worth, but maybe one really bad hit sped up the degeneration
Well except he was badly in pain as a result of game 1 in 2018 (Oakland). He talked about it later in the season. In fact if you look back, though he played in game 2, it was a subpar game for him. So he had 2 incidents of swelling/pain or flare-ups--one in week 1, and 1 in December (when they benched him).
Yes if you have an arthritic knee if can flare up on its own (just from use) or you can hit the knee a certain way and set it off.
The odds of him just injuring his knee during the 2018 season are not good for several reasons. First, an injury would have to be reported as such. Second, if you try to explain things in reference to an actual one-time injury, it doesn't explain 2 different flare-ups in 2018 (week 1 and December). Third, it doesn't explain his diminishment in 2019 (that was not just the OL though the OL did not help). Fourth, it doesn't explain the load management plans in 2019. Why bother to do that unless you have to do it?
Remember, when directly asked if he had an arthritic knee condition, the team never once said "no." They just basically danced around the question. But if "no" was the real answer, it would have been simple enough to just say it.
