what stands out is the way McVays scheme helped his oline even in 2017 and 2018
Green Bay was the first defense to incorporate the 6-1 scheme and for a half caused the Rams all kinds of issues in 2018
The Lions were the next team to successfully deploy it and they nearly upset the Rams. Gurley’s injury (he was hurt against Detroit too but played well late despite the injury) did not help against the Bears and Eagles whose d fronts are matchup problems for the Rams finesse scheme. Without Kupp and a healthy Gurley that 3 WR scheme is not nearly as effective against those kinds of defenses.
McVay had no plan B in that SB. His offense was way too simplistic
re the Video - I was disappointed because I thought it would be balanced and demonstrate where Gurley struggled rather than pin all the blame on the oline. Gurley like Goff seems to play well only when things are perfect for him. When I think about it he has made a ton of great plays when things are wide open for him but when it comes to elite RBs does he make a ton of great plays on his own? I mean I can think of a few great catches but can anyone recall him making plays out of nothing?
I was hoping that film would capture some of that to support what my gut tells me about Gurley
