But then I have the question of why take a RB as high as 52? Why not wait until 3rd or 4th round to take a ‘rotational’ RB?

Nope. I think that they saw Akers as a perfect fit and pounced.

I have a hard time believing that if they thought they could depend on Henderson to be a high caliber RB this year, that they would still take a RB as their first pick in the draft. Much more likely is they have concerns about Henderson. Most teams don't use 2 3rd round picks and a 2nd round pick on RBs in back to back years. Thats a dubious philosophy.

But i don't have issue with them taking Akers, even though it implies that they may have made a mistake trading 2 3rd rounders for Henderson last year. It happens, the draft isn't perfect, you make mistakes, they don't have to admit them, we can see them for ourselves.

My belief is that McVay likes Akers a lot in his offense, and if Henderson steps it up to be a high caliber RB then thats icing on the cake.
