McVay was not happy in any way, shape, or form with the 2019 football team he put on the field. To the point where he blew up his staff and moved players who were disappointments at the cost of huge cap hits.
And when you look a bit deeper into the the actual stats where that team came up short the biggest areas were on McVay's side of the ball. For all the flak around the defense they were statistically near where they were in 2018 in points allowed, but actually showed a ton of improvement vs the run.
The offense, on the other hand, fell off a CLIFF in comparison. And a deeper look at the offense shows the running game was the biggest part of that cliff. The run game didn't just degrade. It went from top 3 in SR and DVoA to bottom third. Second was the impact to Goff, from the statistical drop of TDs and increased INTs to the way the offense had to scheme a pocket for him to be on the move to not get killed.
One could argue, and many have, that the OL is the root cause of these things. I certainly subscribe to this. So when I see the pre-draft push for the "sexier" positions it's kind of funny where we actually get this picture in our minds of the Rams being all happy with their OL. Or feeling like we just need to give the pieces more time. BUT when you go back and look at McVay's unhappiness with this team and couple that with the root cause of the actual failures which were primarily on the offensive side of the ball I think it's crazy to eliminate any OL position.
Whit is 39. If you think they're not looking for a LT well I have some beach front property I can sell you in the midwest. Corbett is no slam dunk, far from it. Blythe is on a one year deal and we all know who he is. All OL positions, thus and IMO, are on that need list IF the value is there when we're on the clock.
