Cooks' value to the offense seems very undervalued on this board. Just going to mention a few points as to why he and his ability to get deep were critical to McVays offense.
1. Tight splits. Often bunched formations w everyone between the hashes. This is done for run blocking purposes but I'll ignore for now.
2. From the right splits Cooks most frequent stem(base of route) was a shallow angle to the numbers.
3. When he cuts, frequently around 12-15 yards, he goes post, shallow corner, or deep out.
4. The posts and corners pull the high safeties and open up the deep crossers by Woods and Kupp. Without anyone threatening deep you can kiss those big crossing plays good bye.
We have no one on the roster that can do that now. Probably the second most important role on this offense behind Qb.
