According to OTC, Brockers is the 7th highest paid annual salary at his position, including Donald. He's not close to the 7th best at that position.
And 2nd contracts have nothing to do with who's "best." That's not how they work. Look at qb. In 2015, Wilson got 22 M. In 2017, Carr got 25 M. In 2018, Cousins got 28 M. Was anyone claiming that Carr and Cousins were better than Wilson? Nah those kinds of 2nd contracts for starters are more or less slotted, and they go up every year. That's all there really is to it.
(Though it's funny they have nowhere to put Donald but in the 3/4 DE list.)
So Brockers got what starting 3/4 DEs got in 2016. Truitt got what they got in 2017. In 2020, 2nd contracts for starting 3/4 DEs the team wants to keep will be more.
Though that's slightly off, because when he signed his deal, he was a 4/3 DT. But...the point stands, since those 2 groups (4/3 DTs, 3/4 DEs) tend to get paid relatively the same. At least when it comes to calculating 2nd contracts for starters.
