I'm struggling to understand how the Rams would have to cut his touches in half for the first 9 games so that he could be used in November/December. If it has to be that drastic, sit him for 2-3 games and cut him back to 75% of the touches for the other games during the first half. Having a RB like TG getting 12 touches while being in on 57 plays in a game that was a one score game or less throughout sure seems like a total waste to me.
When is he expendable with his cap number? He is likely going to get cut/retire when that number becomes realistic anyways. What does he have two, maybe 3 years left? You might as well use him while you can. And when I say that, I'm not suggesting that he be a 25-30 touch RB....but 10-15 touches during the first half of a season sure seems very light, especially when you consider the playoff picture.
It looks like his knee is likely to be in much better shape at the end of the season, but unfortunately it looks like it is a real possibility that won't include any playoff games.
