I agree he wasn't perfect, but again he flashes elite accuracy on several of his throws.
I've long been a big believer in Goff and agree that he flashes elite accuracy....on occasion. But lately I've been somewhat frustrated with him because he's inconsistent. Accuracy is supposed to be his thing but even that is not consistently there.
Along with flashing great accuracy he often flashes great inaccuracy. Today was good but last week we should have scored 40 plus but he missed Everett deep several times.
I think the next step up for him won't come until he's consistent including consistently accurate.
I put those misses more on Everett....he seemed a bit lost in the first half running 3/4 speed.... he picked it up much better in the second half though.
The problem is, there were several misses. They weren't all Everett.
And my point remains, Goff has not been consistently accurate in his entire career. I simply used the latest game as an example. Do you believe his accuracy has been consistently elite?
No, but you got to remember Goff is constantly throwing downfield since McVays arrival and isn't a checkdown Charlie... he had one of the best deep balls in the league last year and it's just a matter of time before he gets on the same page as Everett
He had a couple bad passes today, but most QB's are far from perfect and that's why 70% is a great day. He also had a couple drops today, but those could against him.
Goff isn't checkdown Charlie but the downfield assertion isn't accurate either. Here's a fact: this season, Goff has the FEWEST attempts of 20+ yards than any other QB. So no, he's not constantly throwing down the field.
Besides him missing on deep stuff isn't what bugs me and it's also not why I stated that he's not consistently accurate. He's not consistently accurate because he also misses on intermediate stuff. How often have we seen recently where he's missing receivers with several high throws?
With Goff, he will give you an absolutely crazy good throw but also just as commonly give you several wtf throws that are not accurate at all. I've concluded that the one step between him and eliteness is consistency.
Consistently accurate. Consistently reads the field. Consistently navigates the pocket. He will do all of those things extremely well...
on occasion.
BTW, You know why I don't ever mention drops? Because every QB has those and since the WRs Goff has are pretty much better than any other team's in the league, he has less WR error than other QBs.
