In the video linked above, the two analysts talked more about abilities or "traits", as McVay has called them - pocket presence, anticipation on throws, footwork.
Other analysts related "pro-ready" more to the style of offense they played, or even the age and maturity of the player.
So we're left with some different pros and cons on the topic.
Goff - D1 competition, more total college games, certain traits that look "NFL level". But Air raid offense, one of the youngest QBs to hit the draft ever.
Wentz - Played in a pro-style offense, significantly older and perhaps more mature. Could blackboard plays most impressively! But some injury history, limited number of games.
Whatever Neuhisel is talking about with Wentz's footwork in the video, it sure didn't seem to hold him back much in years 1 and 2.
Maybe Doug Pederson should get some credit for Wentz's immediate success, the way McVay is given a lot of credit for Goff's turnaround.
One thing is for sure, the way they went 1 and 2 in the same draft means comparisons will continue to be made between them.
Also, to me, it's not an excuse to say "yeah, but Wentz has been injured", because injury concerns were part of the evaluation process between these two.
It certainly was for me, anyway.
Oh yeah, one thing I heard a lot at the time was - Goff and Wentz were a lot weaker QB class than Mariota and Winston.
