Its not just men who assume the victim may have "brought it on herself" but many women do as well. I know a few.
There's a great book written by Fredrick Backman titled "Beartown". Its about a great junior hockey team in a small struggling town in a forrest in Sweden. It's also about a rape and how politics and loyalties form different groups form their response to the rape and the victim. Its fiction but deals with the rape in a way that is very compelling to the reader and touches on many issues raised in this post. Its also one of the finest books I've ever read. Backman is the same author of "A Man Called Ove"- but "Beartown" is not written with humor.
I did not say MEN do that. I said it is a national tendency. I made no presumptions about the gender of those who contribute to the bad national trend I named. After all, there were women in the 1950s who defended the idea that females should not seek careers outside the home. Hard-set cultural beliefs are funny that way.
