Zeke is on...not when Dak is on...which is rare. They won with an OL and running game...not on the arm of Prescott.
Zak Prescott getting $30 million would be moronic. I don't care if it's his 8th contract. He is a 2nd tier QB talent. I'm betting Blake Bortles would perform better.
It really gets down to this. You pay the guy a 2nd contract number for a keeper, or start over.
Not everyone on the 2nd contract list (guys who got regular market 2nd contracts) is a top or elite qb.
Look at the 2 lists again.
Quote
Here are the QBs who signed TOP 2nd contracts since 2012. They all got the going market for the year they signed:
* Newton, Luck, Wilson, Cousins, Carr, Dalton, Garoppolo
Limiting it just to the first round (so there are not a few dozen names to sort out), here are the qbs drafted in the 1st round from 2012 on who DID NOT get market value 2nd contracts. They either signed low-end contracts (low for that year's market, which indicates there were doubts about them), or got injured, or just did not pan out:
* Tannenhill, Bortles, Griffen, Bridgewater, Ponder, Gabbert, Locker, Weedon, Manual, Manziel.
You're asking if Dak is an elite qb. But that's not what determines whether a guy gets a market value 2nd contract. Really it's whether you are willing to start over at qb.
Looking at the first list, I would say that althought Dak is not Luck or Wilson, he does belong on a list that includes Carr, Dalton, and Cousins.
The market says THAT
IS worth 30 M.
This is why I tend to stress that the "how HIGH does he rank" critiera has nothing to do with 2nd contract issues. It's
DOES HE RANK AT ALL.
