Was bad in his first couple of starts with Cal, became a first overall pick. Was bad in his first several starts with the Los Angeles Rams became an all pro...Was bad in his first Super Bowl start?????
First I gotta say, man people are so defensive about Goff. It's like people can't say that Goff played badly. And when people point that out it means the poster doesn't like Goff.
It's ridiculous! Goff didn't play well. Period!
..
BS my friend.
No one on the face of the earth is saying Goff DID NOT play poorly.
Though that particular misread keeps rearing its ugly head
The actual dispute, which is the real thing behind the surface thing you think you see, is this--it;s a debate over why he played poorly.
Dismissing that with some kind of "motives thing" aimed at the "sensitivity" of the other side just muddies the conversation up more. It's not helping. It's more of the same.
Going forward, know at least this much--no one has once denied Goff played poorly, and to continue acting like someone did IS the problem with the conversation.
The issue is why.
And there are different views of that.
....
I see opinions in this thread that are very defensive. One implies that a guys expert opinion that Goff had a bad game is invalid because he's been wrong on QBs before. Another attacks the poster and suggests he doesn't like Goff because of posts stating that Goff had a bad game. One game.
IMO, the level of defensiveness I've seen regarding Goff is a problem. It precludes us from having a productive conversation about him.
So I call BS on your BS call. You may feel like there's a different problem. That's fine. I'm not invalidating your opinion.
I see the other half of the problem.
I see posters claiming that it is being denied that Goff played well when no one has ever done that.
I also see a CLASH of "expert opinions" so that I don't see any way shape or form where there is such a thing as ONE expert opinion. So saying someone is an expert at this point is not an argument. Experts disagree on these issues .
And yes your argument made an effort to invalidate. I don't see how you could claim otherwise. You just dismissed two people's arguments by psychologizing them ("defensiveness" ) and for refusing to accept expert testimony (when the truth is, and this is not an opinion, what we're ACTUALLY getting is DIFFERENT expert takes on this, so just calling someone an "expert" at this point is not an argument)
It amounts to this.
People are disagreeing on why, and the extent to which, Goff played the way he played.
That conversation is not real if someone keeps showing up saying "aha you deny Goff played poorly."
It's very frustrating, I have to admit.
No one on the planet is DENYING anything. They're disagreeing about why and to what extent etc. and those kinds of disagreements are natural and inevitable.
So let them flow.
