Getting pressure on Goff and not offsetting that pressure with misdirection or quick hitting routes works and Chicago is a great example.
Chicago would seem to be the blueprint for beating the Rams and coach BB will try and duplicate what Chicago did.
I thought McVay did a poor job of making adjustments to offset what Chicago was presenting on defense. To a lesser extent we saw in the Philly game the issues that Fletcher Cox presented for Goff.
Now if your defense beats up the QB and doesn't let them get into a rhythm the offense will struggle. The key for McVay is to help get Goff off early in the game
even if they are short passes. Teams seem to be picking up the screen so I might try some swing routes to get Gurley out in the open field. McVay will have to figure out how to burn the defense and force them to play straight up.
I would anticipate max pressure on Goff and selling out to stop the run which is what Chicago did. Now the Pats don't have the players that Chicago does on defense and the Rams should be better prepared. It also won't be 20 degrees which should also help.
I think the good news is that McVay has 2 weeks to prepare and will have a good idea about how the Pats defense will approach the Rams. McVay will have all of his possible adjustments already planned out like he did against the Saints. I like our chances to score points.
Now we must also hope that the stage is not too big for Goff and that Gurley comes out with fire to make up for his poor showing against the Saints. We also have some young guys in Reynolds, Everett and Higbee that will need to produce if we are to win. Hopefully the bright lights don't get them off track. If the game against the Saints which was played in a terribly hostile environment is any indication the young guys will be just fine.
