And if the run is working, why pass?

Because generally passing leads to scoring more and an overall more explosive offense.
A super great running game averages 5+ yards per rushing attempt. But a great passing game averages 10-15 yards per attempt.
Or think of it this way, we ran about as good as ever against Dallas yet we only scored 30 points which is
below our season average.
McVay preaches balance because that's how you become a super great offense. Run and pass are both important and when both are working they help loosen up the other.
