All of us will be indebted to Mike Martz as Offensive Coordinator and to some degree Head Coach. The Patriots did a number on Martz and he was paranoid ever sense. Also keep in mind, Martz had opportunities to get back into the NFL being Offensive Coordinator with Lions, 49ers & Bears. Overall defenses adapted and Martz did not. Martz also wanted his good friend as Defensive Coordinator in Larry Marmie, who sealed his fate. Martz wanted him after he fired Peter Guinta after the 2000 season, but thankfully the Cardinals denied permission and Martz went to Lovie Smith instead and that was a Godsend.
Overall, the Rams gave Marz Vermeil like powers, but Martz did not partner with Charley Armey like Vermeil did and then when Armey left, even though Martz had a good relationship with Jay Zygmunt they became bitter enemies and John Shaw sided with Zygmunt and Martz was done. His arrogance was evident and as many people feel he should have been hired as an "Offensive Coordinator." well, he was and really was not that good of any of his three stops before retiring.
