OK Max-you knew this would be my next question-right?

So what has she "said' that proves to you she doesn't know anything about the "mechanics" of football ? Anything specific you can recall ? I'm half serious because I never heard about this analytical woman and have no idea what she has said about the "mechanics" of football-whatever that is.

I suggest you listen to her podcast. You may like it. Enjoy. Personally, I can't get through all the giggling.

I will add this on analytics and mechanics.

I was both a Tech Fellow and the head of the Reliability Engineering Department for a major aerospace corporation for many years. I had a staff of PhD statisticians who did extremely high level analytics to forecast potential catastrophic failures. If you were to ask these people how a helicopter worked, they would give you a blank stare. Relating advanced mathematics (analytics) to complicated hardware (mechanics) is a very rare skill. You need to know both. Only a handful of people in the field can do it. I would have guys hand me an analysis that I knew at first blush was wrong, but they didn't know because they didn't understand the mechanics. I would say things like that's physically impossible or there is no way that could happen and we have 30 years of history to prove it. I would then ask questions and finally uncover the error in the inputs or process.

So what I'm saying with all that is that Frelund may very well be an analytics expert, but she is a lightweight on the mechanics end. She can crunch numbers but when she watches a football game she doesn't know enough of what she's looking at and how it relates to the numbers. For example, she said recently that the Chiefs are going to the Super Bowl and is raving about their great numbers coming out of her model. Did she even "look" at the Chiefs defense with her own eyes? They stink. This is what I call looking at numbers and but not knowing enough about the mechanics to focus on the key aspects of the evaluation.
