As I re-read the article, it seems that the author believes Donald wants a new contract that starts now; replacing the last year on his rookie contract. I don't believe that is the case and the author is wrong. The discussion from McVay and Demoff has always been about an extension to the current contract.
No he(the author) doesn't ... It's always been about an extension. What Donald wants is the Rams to pay him as if he is already a free agent, but he won't be an actual free agent for another three years due to the team having the 5th year option(2018) franchise tags (2019,2020) in its back pocket. So if he wants his big pay day early, he has to be reasonable considering what the CBA has allowed teams to do in these situations... This is not even close to the same situation Suh was in when he cashed in, Suh could go freely to the highest bidder...Donald is three years away from that glorious day. Rams would be incompetent if they payed him like he was a free agent.
