That is a great post with lots of good insights.
I still think that what is missing is that AD is going to lose money by not signing a deal.
The Rams have more leverage than is outlined and cane make the cost to AD even more costly than stated.
For that reason I think a deal will get done as AD is shooting himself in the foot by not compromising.
There are a lot of assumptions there. One is that he cares more about short term money than the contract itself. Can you prove to me beyond any doubt that you know which it is?
I think a lot of people NEED to believe that the Rams have all the power in this when in fact they simply don't. I don't know why they need to believe that...but apparently they do. What I wonder about though is why the need to believe that somehow overwhelms paying attention to the facts.
For one as I said there's the assumption that the Rams can force a too low contract on AD when in fact it may be that trying to do that in itself makes him more resistant. That's where all the assumptions come in and yes they are entirely and only assumptions. If you don't believe me go get the hard evidence that tells us in absolute terms that the issue for AD is short term money and not the long term goal of the right contract.
You can't. You can't do that anymore than anyone could absolutely prove the opposite. So again---it's just assumptions .All the way around.
Plus of course there's the old "trade me" scenario. Rather than assuming (without any basis for it) that the Rams are just being businesslike and AD needs to be squeezed (cause labor must be controlled...heh heh...), let;s instead assume that the Rams aren't coming through with an adequate offer and AD is just dedicated to getting precisely that. So he plays the season, the Rams try and tag him, he holds out again and demands a trade,. the tag counts against the cap (there are details on how that works), and namebrand starters who demand trades tend to get them.
Meanwhile you want to know the truth? Assuming that the delay is on Donald has no more basis in fact than assuming the delay is on the Rams or on both.
In terms of this national writer who covers 32 teams knowing more about the Rams than a well-informed dedicated Rams fan...yeah that'll be the day. B
It's about arguments and facts, and on that level it doesnt work to make it ad hominem (meaning, singing the reporter's praises doesn't subtract the problems in his argument).
Meanwhile I assume the Rams are making progress in a tough negotiation, that no one in that room is stupid enough to act like Suh's 2015 contract supersede's Von Miller's 2016 contract, and that they will reach a compromise that both sides can live with.
That too is just a set of assumptions but there's buzz out there from the Rams themselves that seems to support that view.
