Yeah, but think of the cap like your family budget. If your car needs to be replaced and you need a new car, you may have to buy a nice Acura instead of the Tesla you really want because you still have to buy groceries, pay for utilities and of course cover the mortgage. If that luxury car eats up too much of the budget, the family suffers because you bought that Tesla and you can't pay for the other things needed to support a good lifestyle.
The Rams cap can afford to have Donald, Goff, Cooks, Gurley, and Peters all with 2nd contracts by 2021 and there will be room for more.
If the Rams DON'T think that then they need to dump either AD or Peters after this season and move on.
Because what you're actually proposing, according to your analogy, is to try and talk some salesman into selling them a Tesla at Acura prices.
