I agree with all you wrote, except this. He is double teamed more consistently than any DE, I would think. (Maybe I am wrong). So, tying up 2 blockers is very, very valuable...especially with someone like Suh next to him
However, with all of that we might may win a super bowl without him. But, he sure made the WHOLE defense better last year---though, I also agree he is barely "worth" the price of an 'average' starting QB.
Maybe one of the hardest free agents to 'guess the worth' than any free agent ever? Part of that is problem is the cap explosion, too. I would prefer a 3 year contract at 23 mill a year---an extension would be nicer. Really, 3 years is a LONG time in this game. He will wear down, and by 30 be just very good, maybe. Then the fourth year, if he is so good they can tag him once, and let him go.
IF we had 2 very good OLBs I would be ok with trading him--but, we don't. 1 #1, 2 #2s and a starting O lineman--and the rights to Joe Thomas seems to be right to me.
I certainly want a super bowl or two before he goes, but if we can't get a Herschel Walker trade out of it, then it ain't worth it, either.
The issue is this. Suh is good but the really devastating thing would be the
combination of Donald and Suh. That's what I hope we don't miss this year.
