Agreed.
At this point, with contracts to Cooks and TGII ... IF the Rams were low-balling AD, I'm of the opinion, and that's all it is, that ADs representation would let it be known and we haven't heard a peep from his camp. I could be dead wrong ... time will tell.
No one says they are lowballing AD.
What IS possible is that it's a tough negotiation with slow progress because of the amounts involved. We don't even know if the issue is the raw amount or the guaranteed money. Anyone who CLAIMS to know and to take sides has no basis for it.
The deal for Cooks was a standard issue 2nd contract for a WR in 2018. Around 16 M. It's what WRs get on 2nd contracts in 2018. The Rams pulling that off proves nothing. If they DIDN'T pull it off, it would be a very bad red flag.
The deal for Gurley is still less than what top WRs, QBs, DEs, and OLBs get. It too was easy in comparison and doing it proves nothing. It does not demonstrate that the Rams are automatically offering full market value for the best defender in the league.
There's just nothing to go on, though people who are either pro-management or pro-player are going to leap to conclusions. It happens.
The Raiders are struggling in a similar way with Mack. These 2 contracts, Mack's and Donald's, are harder to do, because so much more is involved. So for example, in both cases, the raw amount AND the amount guaranteed are going to break deadlocks on contracts for non-qbs.
