So one thought I had about the Gurley extension is possibly a way to show everyone (fans, media, etc) that the Rams are not being cheap. Some would say Gurley was overpaid. The reasoning is if the Rams just paid big for Cooks and Gurley and they say they want to sign AD, perhaps they are trying to show the World (including AD) that they do take care of their own.
I do not like AD's agent, and I hope AD is getting pissed that these other awesome deals are getting done and he is sitting around losing money.
To act as if one deal is aimed at another is first of all to make Demoff & co. out to be incompetent because that's a bad way to do business. That sounds more like the kind of thing Zygmunt would do.
Here's some quotes on that.

FYI on #Rams extension with Todd Gurley and how it (doesn’t) impact Aaron Donald’s situation. As Les Snead said, these deals are unto themselves and negotiated simultaneously.

Cooks’ deal didn’t affect Donald, and Gurley won’t either. The numbers are way past what you’ll see in those two, so it’s not like this sets some kind of floor.

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is in the last year of his rookie deal, should eventually sign a contract with money that dwarfs the deals Gurley and Cooks signed, because of Donald’s incredible talent and the market for star defensive players.
“Each situation is different,” Snead said Tuesday. “You work on everything simultaneously, but you don’t know when you are going to get something done or not.”
