Just doing some quick numbers based on what the previous contract was for the highest paid defender in the NFL, Von Miller.
The cap has gone up about 12% since he signed in 2016
So basing what VM signed for, a very fair offer to AD would be about 6 years $128 M
A reasonable offer would be in that range. However, Donald may be trying to reset the market the way Suh and then Miller did.
Suh actually was first do reset the market in 2015 and he paved the way for Miller. When Miller signed, he was actually only the 2nd highest paid. Suh was still first.
When Suh signed in 2015, his salary was 14% above JJ Watt's who was the 2nd highest paid defender at that time. Suh and later Miller got more than inflationary increases; they were reset the market contracts that are still measuring sticks 3 years later.
So if you apply that concept, Donald is probably looking for more than $21.
This is the problem with having players who are a little toooo good.
