Much of the conversation I've seen on the topic of AD's contract seems to be geared towards trying to figure out who's to blame for the current state: are discussions at a standstill because AD is asking to much? Or is it because the Rams aren't offering enough?
What if both sides are in agreement that AD should be the highest paid defensive player in the league and have simply agreed to table their discussion until Mack signs?
I know that AD has to report by Aug 7 to get credit for the 2018 season ... but why can't he report then, begin the year on his existing contract, and then sign an extension after Mack signs?
As I said in a different post, OBJECTIVELY, near as we know right now, there's nothing tangible to base any assumptions on, and the issues delaying a contract could be on the team, on the player, on both, or on neither.
Your possibility I would categorize as being "on neither."
And yeah for all we know that's what's happening.
