But the most interesting thing to me in all this is that the PLAYERS voted Goff as #38 overall and had him ranked #10 top QB. I didn't see that, but I'm thinking they must see things that us amateurs aren't able to see. I think Goff is a hard player to evaluate for a layman. He's not physically imposing, he doesn't shake off tacklers like a Roethisberger, and doesn't make those flashy plays outside of the pocket like a Wilson. He does stuff quietly with his feet and that is easy to underestimate.

Honestly? I don't care either way. Plus of course I didn't hear any "scoffing."

There's no such thing as "the definitive source." No NFL player watched every single game of every single qualifying qb and came to an informed choice that way. Curley just has an opinion. It's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Plus if you actually listen to the players who praised Goff in that segment on the NFL top 100, they were all praising his POTENTIAL. That includes Whitworth. They liked his ATTRIBUTES (including his ability to shake off bad moments and remain cool). I wasn't one of those btw who doubted Goff would end up in the top 100. And I am also one of the few who has never wavered on supporting him---not at the time of the draft, not in the summer of 2016, not during his 7 starts in 2016, not in the summer of 2017. At the same time I recognize that he really actually does have some maturing to do as a player. To me there's nothing wrong with saying that and if others are more skeptical than I am about him, that's okay too...it doesn't matter really.

I notice quite often that people who try to act like there is a The Source change who that is frequently. One month it's this, one month it's that. The lesson to learn from that? The desire for a The Source is itself the problem. My solution? Listen to a lot of them, don't expect them all to be right, get a feel for the range of the conversation.

Goff is always going to have skeptics until he turns a corner in some big game or other that seals it.

So what. It's all just part of the mix.

Shrug.



Honestly, Goff will get his due when he shines in a big game. As it stands last year probably all that most reporters ever saw was the Eagles game and the 2nd Seattle game and the Falcons game. No one is watching all 16 games of every qb with equal attention.
