Lots of talk about keeping the core of the Rams for years to come. So who is that? I have a hunch we won't all agree and might be surprised who Snead and McVay think it is.

Here's my core:

Goff
Gurley
Cooks
Kupp
Woods
Donald
Peters
Brockers

On the bubble: Joyner, Johnson III

Maybe: Saffold, Havenstein, Suh

Outstanding thread topic, Rock.

My opinions kinda changed on some players after giving this a few minutes of thought. For example, projecting out beyond 2 years is always risky in such matters since that’s almost an eternity in the NFL these days. So, most on your fine list are outside a 2-3 year window.

The players I see the Rams moving mountains to keep for the next 5 years or more?

Goff
Cooks
Donald
Peters

I left Gurley off my list because I fear that he could be a cap casualty in the event of too many big extensions coming soon and year after year. Hope not, ‘cause the O currently runs through Gurley. Sigh...

The others that I think the Rams really, really want but must be prepared to lose are these:

Saffold
Joyner (probably a goner due to the salary crunch)

Some others would fall into the same category but I’m not including because they are under contract for another 2 or more years:

Brockers
Johnson

I see Talib and Suh as short term rentals. They will be replaced by other FA’s or draft picks as opportunities present themselves. I wouldn’t buy the jersey of either one. Lol.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here a little bit and say that the Rams would also like to extend both Hav and Brown, but only if reasonably priced. Who wants to see 2 new holes opened up next season if it can be avoided? I may be in the minority here, though, with my bird in the hand thinking.

Anyway, fantastic thread topic, man.
