And the problem in 2011 was not the roster. It was the fact that (according to Football Outsiders) it was the most injured offense in the NFL going back to 2002. Why 2002? Because that's as far back as FO went in their injury analysis.
Btw the offense injuries are added to things like the fact that the 2011 Rams lost 10 CBs during the season. Most teams don't even carry 10 CBs in training camp.
There's more to a roster than WR.
The 2012 Rams did start out with a disadvantage though---in the first 8 games they had injuries on the left side of the OL (center to LOT) and ending up having to make 9 different replacements in 8 games. Once that settled down in the 2nd half of the season they were more competitive and went 4-3-1, including taking the NFC conference champion 9ers into overtime twice and going 1-0-1 against them.
