then why did they sign him to a long term deal before he ever played a down for Wade? If LBers are not important, then why did Denver pay so much money to Von Miller and use a 1st round pick on Shane Ray while Wade was there? They also gave ILB Brandon Marshall a 4 year 32 million extension with Wade as DC.

So I think Wade likes his LBers, but he's very specific about his LBers. He also had a very good group of DBs, so I'm sure he loves his corners.

After sleeping on it, I gave the Cooks trade some more thought. And I came away thinking my suggestion to 43 that Cooks would resign with rthe Rams for 5 years 17.5 per sounds about right.

I'm not convinced they are married to Peters. Suh is a one year rental and Talib is here for 2 years tops.

So do you think they are going to sign Donald before or after Cooks? Do you think Donald is a part of their new foundation?

And where does this leave Gurley?

And Joyner?

Are those 2 foundation guys or are the Rams looking at a RB like Rashaad Penney as a future replacement for Gurley?

Why the AO extension? In short, they made a mistake.

First, I must say I see a distinction to be made between ILB and OLB. Wade loves OLB / Edge rushers. That's the position he's used the most premium picks on.

But the run stuffing ILB not so much. I recently researched the last 20 years of Wade's defenses and he very rarely spends premium resources on ILBs. He typically uses what's on the team already.

Every so often he'll trade for a former player, and every so often he'll pick up an inexpensive vet free agent on a very short term deal. I should add that on rare occasions he gives an ILB a lucrative extension like Marshall but that looks like an exception to his general framework to me.

Wade also doesn't draft that position. On his last 48 defensive draft picks, he's only drafted 3 ILB and none were in the 1st round.

The problem with having both Barron and AO is that the Rams had two of the highest ILB's at a position that Wade historically doesn't prioritize. So we knew something had to give...

My opinion is the extension with AO was in the works prior to Wade's arrival. That train had already built up a lot of momentum. Wade gets there, sees AO being a leader on defense and green lights it. After the season is over they review all personnell, saw the 28th ranked run defense, saw that AO was a league leader in missed tackles and had been for several years, realized he was part of the problem not the solution, and rethought their commitment to him long term.

Basically, the AO extension was a mistake. They realized it, they rectified it. My feeling is, after the personnel review, they essentially chose Barron over Ogletree and I'm not sure how long he'll be around.

I think the long term intended core is Goff, Donald, Gurley, Cooks, Peters... and pretty close to that order.

On Peters it probably depends somewhat on how he behaves.

Everybody else - Joyner, Brockers, Barron, etc. - some of those guys are gonna be lost. You recoup the comp. picks and replace them. That's where continued good drafting comes in.

I said the moment they franchise tagged Joyner that the Rams would lose both Watkins and Joyner. Watkins this year, Joyner next. I still think that's what ends up happening.

They will try their damndest to extend one of Donald or Cooks this year. Ideally both. They'll use the franchise tag on the other.

The Guryley decision is two years down the road so I don't think they draft a future replacement this year. I don't think they intend to replace him soon. They will exercise his 5th year option by May 3rd and use the franchise tag on him in 2020 if necessary.

Agree on Suh and Talib. They are only part of the short term plan.

Practicing against Talib & Peters should up his game.
