While under no obligation , he could let it be known he has no desire to play for say any team other than LA,
and wouldn't resign with a team that traded for him. You can be sure what he thinks and feels about any team
thinking about trading for him carries weight when deciding to pursue said trade.
If he's not signing an extension, he's not worth a 1st as a one year rental. And only he determines whether he signs an extension.
So yeah, lots of leverage there.
