That’s insane.
I will lose a ton of respect for Snead if he caves to such nonsense.
Geez, the Rams were the top scoring team last year without OBJ. Yeah, they had Watkins, but he was largely Decoy Man.
We don’t NEED this guy. We do need our 1st rounders to restock and help our cap for the future as we extend our elites. Sigh...
A. Gonzalez in an interview the other day said McVay REALLY wanted to retain Watkins and pushed hard for that to happen until the very bitter end.
He left the impression that McVay feels there will be a big void from losing Watkins. And then today, the article talks about how McVay longingly spoke of Watkins and how they will miss him.
I think for his offense to function the way he wants it to, he NEEDS the dynamic deep threat or as you call it Decoy Man.
It's McVay's offense; he would know what's needed.
That could well be, dz.
I will always defer to McVay on such matters, for obvious reasons.
However...
Even McVay felt that $16 million for Watkins was just too much.
I still reserve my right to hold my own opinion on this OBJ trade matter. I think that it will prove to be a bigger mistake for the Rams than the Tavon trade up and the Tavon extension. And one that will have longer term negative consequences, at that.
They did let him walk but the more I think about it, I don't know if that's on McVay.
I don't know that McVay automatically gets everything he wants. He's not Fisher and doesn't have that level of power.
It's possible Demoff or Snead overrode him.
I don't think any of us know exactly how they function and make decisions together but something about the way Gonzalez said McVay was pushing until the end leads me to believe there are checks on his power.
I'm with you on the OBJ matter.
