They're going for it THIS year...but WHY?
Why the rush?
Why sign Suh on a one year deal with no second year option?
Why sign a 30 and a 32 yr old corner, one who had to take a powder due to concussions?
Now there is talk of them inquiring about trading for OBJ. A receiver who will kick and scream if he's not getting his targets?!?!?
These are obviously the moves of a desperate team.
They have pushed their chips to the center of the table but unfortunately its with the wrong hand.
These moves will only go as far as Jared Goff takes them.
I don't care how good your defense is you need a qb playing at a high level to win it all in today's game.
Even in 2015 when the Broncos won the SB with an all world defense, despite the prevailing sentiment, Peyton Manning was still very instrumental in their run.
So it would appear that McVay and co think losing Sammy Watkins was no big deal and that Jared Goff is ready.
I disagree!!
I disagree with your disagreement! LOL.
All kidding aside, I don't see this as desperation at all. To me, it's an aggressive approach to build a team that
could win the SB in 2018/2019. Like others have posted, the Rams appear to have a window (with Goff, Gurley, et al still on rookie contracts), to add the caliber of players they're adding via FA and trades, to boost their chances at winning it all. All the while, they are not just "thinking about today" as they also haven't mortgaged the future to acquire these guys.
I like that my team has that mind set now. Gone are the days of sitting on your hands in the offseason, or just making token moves. Gone are the days of relying so much on drafted players and waiting for them to develop. Gone are the days of a poor coaching staff that have a hard time developing players. The Rams are the same franchise they've always been, but at the same time they are so different now. Somebody flipped a switch.
It's true that the personalities brought in are/have been a bit sketchy. Personally I'm a little torn on the Suh signing. It's true that Goff is still developing. It's also true that Goff is pretty good now and should only get better.
But I, for one, and this is just my opinion, am thankful that MY team is now a team that is aggressive in it's approach to bring winning football to Rams fans everywhere.
With all that said, run ... don't walk ... away from OBJ!!!
