Are the woes in the redzone gonna automatically disappear after 3 years of failure under McVay? Obviously I'm including his time in Wash.
Counting Washington McVay has called the plays for 3 years starting in 2015, as you say.
But it wasn't 3 years of failure.
In 2015, Washington's redzone scoring percentage ranked 11th in the league.
In 2016, it ranked 30th. That counts as failure.
(In 2017, with Gruden back calling the plays, it ranked 16th.)
In 2017, in LA, the Rams ranked 17th.
I would say that's one year of failure, followed by a year of being low-end average.
And it needs to get better, no question. It's a concern.
But it's not 3 straight years of flat-out failure.
People handwringing about red zone offense but just skip the fact they were the highest scoring team in the league last year.
I don;'t know why you fall back on those kind of "handwringing" flames. It's not serious conversation.
The redzone offense means a lot when you're playing a tough opponent who is your equal.
For example, they blew out Houston and the Giants combined 84-24, but lost to the Vikings.
But how many GOOD teams did the Rams beat when the score was close?
They beat the Saints 26-20, they beat Dallas 35-30, they beat the Titans 27-23. 88-73.
But they lost to Seattle 16-10, and to Phil 43-35. They also lost to Minn 24-7 and to Atlanta 26-13. 3 of those were top 10 defenses. 65-109
One of the ways they toughen up and do better against those tougher teams like Minn and Phil, is to improve their redzone scoring percentage.
I liked last season a lot but it was not so good that they are without question marks.
...
Obviously, but to keep banging the table about what a failure McVay was is comical....btw, I remember a couple drops that could have changed some of those games you mentioned. Is that on McVay ? Gurley fumble on goal line vs Seattle, Kupp drop vs Seattle and fumble vs Vikes, Sammy and Higs both had dropped TD's in the playoffs. Players gotta make plays!
