On OBJ, I have more concern than with Talib, Peters, or Suh because I've heard of more instances of selfishness. But he hasn't been added yet... I'm not afraid of passion, emotion, or off the field immaturity if the player is unselfish, works hard, and has teammates and coaches who love him.
So you don't think get 3 penalties in the first half of a Super Bowl, getting a PF that causes your team to lose a chance at OT, leaving the field, get suspended and shooting yourself are selfish acts?
UmmmK
I'm not talking about selfish "acts", I'm talking about a selfish person. A selfish player is one who is concerned
chiefly with himself as a
general rule.
That is a character flaw with no real upside. A player being primarily worried about his targets even if the offense is doing great when he's only getting limited targets is an example of selfishness.
Passion and being emotional are the reason for the PF's, leaving the field, etc. Obvious negatives in isolated situations.
Not only are the situations isolated, but those character traits also have upside. I agree with McVay when he says that it's their passion and emotion that make them the best at their craft. I'll take the great with the bad.
