Any commodity is worth whatever price someone will pay for it. If another team values SW st 15 million per year then they'll offer him that. Surely our Rams have offered whatever they think is a fair price and hope he accepts it. Probably he will get a higher offer in the open market. It's not more complicated than that. Comparing his stats don't really factor into it at all. For those who argue he was only a #4 Target last season with us. True. For those who say he can be more valuable as a number one target. Also true. For those who say he has had injury problems. True. For those who argue that he was healthy last season. True. But his actual value is what he can get paid. I like him and hope he stays.

Well partly that's true.

But the free agent market has its own "rules." If you look at how the market works it slots players. But then every year the price for any given position goes up. All this is especially true of players up for 2nd contracts.

Last year WRs in Watson's general tier (which is the next tier down from the elite of the elite) got contracts in the 13-14 M range. This year it will be more because it always goes up every year.

So according to the market, that is what SW is worth.

I doubt anyone pays much more than the general market value. But the general market value is always a consideration.

But you;re right. It works this way. The FA market says a player is worth x amount. If you don't pay it someone else will.
