Watkins has somehow become a key player to the success of the Rams offense in 2018. A must-have.
A guy who just can't be easily replaced.
I keep hearing about how Watkins is "better" or "best" when compared to other players.
And yet when you compare production Watkins comes in 2nd to some of those players. He comes in 4th on his own team!
I simply don't know how to measure "better" and "best" other than actual on-field production.
What else matters? Speed? Footwork? Hands? Those things are merely attributes; coaching points. Not actual contribution to winning games.
Watkins is a complimentary player. He's not a one-man band. He can't single handedly dismantle a D. He needs to be paid like an integral part of the Rams offense; not as "the man" (which he is not and never has been). If that doesn't satisfy him, and some team hires him to try and be "the man" (and pays him like it), then so be it.
But there are plenty of guys out there who can fill Watkins role, Richardson included.
