I keep hearing about how Watkins is "better" or "best" when compared to other players.
And yet when you compare production Watkins comes in 2nd to some of those players. He comes in 4th on his own team!
It is interesting how Watkins is crapped on, production's top category is touchdowns. Points win games and Watkins is 1st on his own team!
Also, after tons of posts by people who watch the All-22, the Watkins haters refuse to accept intangibles in terms of Watkins' game. They think stats matter more than anything, which really is a fantasy football approach.
As for me, I have given an honest opinion based on lots of time watching film. I also knew the stats by heart, I have never needed them repeated to me, they do matter *some* but more importantly, I know HOW the stats were arrived at. And based on that had Goff been looking for Watkins the stats would have been huge, Goff simply missed a wide open Watkins time after time. But to me, it didn't matter because the game is about winning. And Watkins skills contributed to that in the same way Harold Jackson did in the 1970s and even more because Watkins was money in the red zone.
I don't know if Rams will sign Watkins or not. If they do not, he will not be replaced by just anyone. And he will get a great contract from whoever does get him. The top priority is to have money for Donald and eventually Gurley and Goff, but to throw away the best WR we have had since Torry Holt and Ike is not wise.
