McVay needs to win this game

For me the perspective is clear: McVay made exactly the right choice to give the Rams the greatest chance to win this next weekend. Whether they do or not is another issue.

While you seem to have made up your mind that results can't and won't change it, I'm waiting to see how McVay's decision actually plays out. If the Rams come out and lay an egg next Saturday, then McVay will clearly have gotten it wrong. The Falcons are a team the Rams should definitely beat at home based on what we saw during the first 16 weeks of the 17 week season.

On the other hand, if the Rams come out and look sharp and better for McVay's strategy, they'll win convincingly and all praise for doing the right thing will be due McVay.

I keep hearing if the Rams lose next week it will be because of sitting the starters. What if they lose because Atlanta just flat out outplays them? IMO, if they do lose, it does not mean it was because they rested the starters..it might be...but IMO there is no way to tell why. I would think that this time of year resting a week before a playoff game (a home game at that) would be beneficial. Especially when you have a few important players either nursing injuries and/or are older players. JMO. smiling smiley

Here is a link from a 2013 article I found interesting...

[bleacherreport.com]

His star RB sacrificed the rushing title and possible MVP award for it. His team suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of their most hated rival for it. No reward for that sacrifice will mean McVay screwed up. The Rams are decided favorites going into that game. It's a given the Rams should win that game. If they don't, his strategy going into it will be rightfully scrutinized and criticized.

That article had been posted here and commented on already. It's not a relevant nor a valid analysis with respect to what the Rams did and are doing. They didn't have a bye week to begin with and comparing playoff competition and home winning percentages to regular season completion and home winning percentages is a terribly flawed methodology.

Rams are top-heavy. They lack depth.
