This is just my opinion and I'm not trying to change anybody else's.

Fisher can be described in one word: Average.

6 winning records in 22 years of coaching is a fact and cannot be denied, 'circumstances' and all.

Well I've never seen anyone deny the numbers. No-one is saying it was 7 out of 22 or 3 out of 22, etc.

But how do you explain that great Titan team in 99? I'm not arguing here, just genuinely interested. How do we explain that great team? I mean they came off the mat in the second half and played Fisher-ball and just crammed it down the GSOT's throat.

Eddie George and McNair and that OLine and that defense were so mentally-tough, and physical. Fisher-ball. And it worked.
And this wasnt the 70's. It worked against the GSOT.

So how do we account for that?

Just seems to me, Fisher had to have been a pretty "good coach" to have built that. And there were four or five other seasons like that.

But then there's all those other mediocre seasons. The 6 out of 22 thing you mentioned. That part is true too.

So how does one account for those two Fishers?

zn thinks its cap trouble at times mixed with moves, mixed with key injuries.
Others think Fisher is an idiot. smiling smiley

I dunno.

....but aint it great to NOW be arguing about whether McV and Wade will make the Hall of Fame this year... or next year? smiling smiley

To me all this is just the classic fallacy of just doing the averages without looking at contexts.

Averages can falsify. Look at the contexts.

AND yes McVay is a find plus he brought Kromer and Phillips.

...
===============

Not to me. If it was three or four years, then I'd dismiss the numbers. But 22 years is a big sample. Six winning seasons, Sixteen non-winning seasons. It certainly gives 'me' pause.

So on the one hand i read your view, and i read about the two Moves, the Injuries, the Cap Trouble, the Forced-QB (those seem to be the four main factors you talk about) and i can see how, sure they would have an impact. Sounds perfectly reasonable.

But then...theres all those non-winning season. Lots and lots of non-winning. Over and over.

So, i dunno.

And couldnt we always find 'circumstances' like injuries and cap trouble to explain why almost ANY coach loses? Arent there always those things goin on?

So....i dunno.

Lets do....Haslett. He built a Saint team that gave the GSOT fits. Tough, hardnosed team that was better for a year or two. Better than the Faulk team, i thought. But then...it went downhill. And with the Rams he seemed up and down in his short tenure. How does one evaluate him? I dunno.

The Spags, and Haslettts and John Robinsons, and Lovie Smiths....I could go on. Theres a whole bunch of coaches where its hard for me to say what they really are.
