I understand that new in contracts QB's are being paid more but some QB's like Brady are making $20 million. I'm not sure it would matter to me if he, or any other top QB making about the same money, signed a few years ago. I think its too much for a DT but I'm good either way. My preference would be to walk away.
Because contracts go up, the YEAR someone signs matters. You can't just pull up a contract from the past and say that number represents the position.
There's 2 ways to account for that.
1. You look at the average of the yearly amount for recent contracts, by year. So right now qbs get 25 M. In fact I don't even look at all qbs who signed recently. Some older qbs take discounts. So what I REALLY look at is the 2nd contracts of young starters (again, Luck and Carr.)
2. You average a certain number of the top contracts. The avg. for the top 10 qbs will always be higher than the avg. for the top 10 DTs no matter what Donald gets.
It's misleading to say that 4 years ago a qb signed for 20 M and therefore 20 M is qb money.
No! Going by the most recent deals, Luck and Carr,
qb money is 25 M.There is absolutely no market rule out there that says because qbs were getting 20 M
4 years ago, that amount forever caps all other positions. In fact not only is that NOT the way the market works, it doesn't even make any basic sense.
