For one thing, Thomas was reportedly impressing in OTA's and mini-camp.

For another, an outside deep threat is just what McVay wants and needs in his new O. Thomas can fill that role, perhaps.

And lastly, what's the harm of watching Thomas throughout camp and preseason before cutting the cord?

This could still work out very well for all parties. Not giving him a chance seems senseless to me.
