Because he's a good gunner lol? He had 3 catches. Can u remember them? Me neither. But his dropped pass and fumble against Seattle, we remember that. It would be different if he put up some kind of numbers, but he didn't. Even on a team starved for WR help.
I am not basing my own view of Thomas on a 6th round pick;s rookie season on a struggling offense. All that tells me is that he got his rookie year out of the way. My own interest in Thomas is based on 3 things. One is, if you look at his draft profile, he got lot of buzz. For example, see what PFF says about him below. Second, he caught people's attention this spring as a guy who is clearly developing. Both Goff and McVay singled him out independently for good work and for stepping up. Third, he was already a very good special teams gunner.
So if he continues to ascend throughout camp, then, yeah, I am interested.
Here's PFF on him:

3. MIKE THOMAS, WR, LOS ANGELES RAMS
Thomas likely fell in the draft due to average measurables and the fact that he played against a lower level of competition at Southern Miss. But he had the 11th highest receiving grade in this draft class, and flashed the kind of ability at times that leads you to believe he has a chance to develop into a very special player. His 2.98 yards per route run average was the fifth-best mark of any receiver in this draft class. His second-highest game grade of the year came against Washington in the bowl game, which should at least somewhat dampen fears about the level of competition he faced. He’s a potential steal for the Rams. . . ..
