Los Angeles Rams shouldn’t waste time, part ways with WR Mike Thomas

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Mike Thomas received a four-game suspension without pay for the 2017 NFL season.
After finishing at the bottom of the league last season by only averaging 14 points per game, early signs indicate the Los Angeles Rams should be in much better shape this time around heading into the 2017 NFL season, especially with an improve receiving corps. Unfortunately, it looks like the Rams may have to adjust their plans a little for at least the first month of the season thanks to second-year wideout Mike Thomas.
The former sixth-round pick will miss the first four games of the 2017 NFL season after receiving a suspension without pay for violating the league’s policy when it comes to performance enhancing substances, according to the team site. While Thomas will be eligible to return for the team’s Week 5 contest against the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles wideout can still participate in the preseason.
As frustrating as this news is for the Rams and their fans to hear, it’s difficult not to wonder if Thomas is even worth keeping around on the roster. Ever since the hiring of Sean McVay at head coach, Los Angeles has done everything in their power over the last few months to work hard, and make sure they improve from last year’s 4-12 finish.
Between Tavon Austin hopefully turning out to be a better fit in McVay’s offense to the additions of Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp, Jared Goff‘s second season under center should be much smoother than his rookie year. And while there was a little bit of hype surrounding the possibility of Thomas fitting into the mix, it doesn’t even seem worth it after this recent suspension.

It would be one thing if Goff and Los Angeles didn’t have many options to work with in the passing game, but the fact that other players like Nelson Spruce or Pharoh Cooper seem determined to make an impact in their second season puts Thomas at even more of a disadvantage. At the end of the day, the Rams shouldn’t even consider wasting time on a former sixth-round pick who only caught three passes all of last year as a rookie, and just part ways with Thomas to focus on the other young wideouts with bigger potential.
