I've heard several sports podcast beat this dead horse: "The Rams are awful, AND they have the 3rd least cap room this year!"
Which appears to be true: [

Obviously a single-year snapshot of the cap doesn't tell you much about how we're managing the cap overall, but I'd be interested to know what gives you confidence in our cap management, since my knowledge doesn't extend beyond this one figure.
I'll tell you what it looks like to me---they just deliberately drove up the cap this year to acquire vet free agents (Woods, Barwin, Whitworth, etc.) That was a calculated thing. They have a ton of space next year, so cap space is not an issue.
The big cap eater is Tru, and as I said, that is the one misstep I put on them. Lowballing Jenkins, insulting him, to the point where he just stomped off, then having to tag Tru twice in a row...that's an issue.
But that's just not enough for me to downgrade all the other good things. As I see it, overall they are good cap managers. Not having space now after deliberately trading it for veteran signings (a reasonable trade-off) does not bother me. I don't see that as an issue. That's because the Rams have always been good at using (and stockpiling) future cap space. If they are good in 2018 right now, then they are good overall. Next year they are 8th in cap space as of right now, though that will go down when they sign Donald.
