Some of us have been trying to put this AD contract into a Big Picture perspective.
Demoff has to consider the overall cap in terms of the entire team, not just one "favorite son".
Here's our '18 UFA list:
Alec Ogletree OLB
Connor Barwin OLB
Ethan Westbrooks DT
Dominique Easley DT
Maurice Alexander SS
Trumaine Johnson CB
LaMarcus Joyner CB
Nickell Robey-Coleman CB
E.J. Gaines CB
John Sullivan C
Lance Dunbar RB
Cody Davis FS
Notice how many are on D? We're gonna want (or need) to re-sign a bunch of those guys if we want to maintain a high level D, right? It looks like 5-6 starters on D NOT counting TruJo! If some of those guys shine, we would be foolish to let them walk. The ones that don't shine will be goners.
The current projected $40 million available for next year sounds like a lot but it will go fast given all these upcoming UFA's.
I see TruJo as a goner. Probably Tavon, too. Sully might be replaced by someone on this year's bench (Eldrenkamp, for instance?)
Bottom line? The Rams need to not lose their overall cap perspective when negotiating with AD. Especially when they have all the leverage.
I remain convinced that this will be worked out such that all parties will walk away happy.
