If you take in more calories than you use your body stores it in it's fat cells.
Plus there are other related issues.
There are about 3,500 calories in a pound of fat. If you eat that many more calories than you use you will add a pound.

UK take a look around and meal plans and ideas. The Whole30 has a lot of detractors and isn't really based on sound science. You're far better off with Paleo.
