No doubt the stacking of the board, and the groupings of players, was pre-determined more or less by committee.
It is the choosing from the groupings that is actual "drafting". And it seems implausible to me that anyone but Fisher would have final say on the actual pick on draft day. I'm sure they worked through multiple scenarios, so it's not like they argued about it when the selection came around.
I guess where I'm heading is that the weighting of who was most responsible for draft selections in the Rams organization was Fisher. No doubt it is not the same for other teams.....GB for instance has the GM with the higher weight, as he can hire and fire HCs. Of course GB's HC still has much input; although on draft day the GM makes the final decision. Different teams weight the draft responsibility a little differently.
Bottom line for me: the choosing of the players AND player development AND schemes and game plans are all on Fisher. I have no doubt that this was the deal Kroenke agreed to or Fisher probably would not have come. Snead was clearly subordinate to Fisher, although by no means was Snead Fisher's lackey nor does Snead get a pass.
I agree with those who say that Demoff has to have determined that Fisher was the issue on lack of success on the field; not Snead. There is no way that Snead would have been retained if they thought he was the problem, as there is no lack of GM candidates looking for an opportunity. I don't know if Demoff is right; but he certainly has more visibility into the inner workings and player choices than any of us.....or any sportswriter.
I suspect the Demoff sees it as I do; the Rams have way too much talent to never be able to achieve even a .500 season. They don't have enough to be a serious playoff team; but that doesn't mean that they are terribly far away.
