Does anybody believe that he would help select someone that didn't want him at GM?
For starters, Snead did get that extension so he gets paid for the 2017 season regardless of how much longer he holds his current GM status.
Another thing that some have already mentioned is the work Snead's college draft scout team have already done up to this point preparing for the 2017 draft.
Maybe KD thinks Les and his scout team could be an important asset for the new HC by offering all their current INTEL as the transition continues with the hiring of assistants and or a new GM etc.
I'm guessing that Snead's been told by KD that if a certain HC candidate highly coveted expresses that he would only except the job under the terms that a new GM of his preference is required, Snead days will be numbered.
The HC might want a new GM but also may decide to keep Les around merely as a draft consultant for the 2017 draft.
There are many ways this could go depending on how the new HC feels about Snead's value for the short term or the duration of 2017 possibly keeping Les on board in a different capacity if a new GM and HC are in agreement with this.
We can all speculate how Snead fits into the Puzzle but my belief is he's been advised by KD that the new HC will have a big say on Les' fate for how long and at what capacity he's needed for until the hiring process is completed.
